Title
Forms of evaluation in landscape design
Abstract
Evaluation is the annotation of value to elements and characteristics of the landscape. It is in fact a work of design, guided by a goal. It represents the search for possibilities of accomplishing the goal. Evaluation appears as a solitary operation or part of a design procedure. Manners of evaluation depend on its position in the design process. The division of evaluation manners – those which are products of developmental demands and those which are elements of protection – is necessary because of unevitable optimization of envirinmental measures. Protectional demands are based on long range and ideological presumptions, as well as ethical bonds between people and their relation to nature. The importance of protection demands the judging of alternative solutions and choice of one which minimaly changes the natural environment.
