Title
Private rental housing
Abstract
Notwithstanding the policy changes and the measures of housing reform that have been implemented in Slovenia since 1991, the private rental sector still remains totally ignored, as if it does not exist. The official attitude to this housing sector is best demonstrated by the fact that there are no statistical data of any kind indicating the size or existence of rental housing stock. The first part of the paper gives a theoretical background to the discussion. It is followed by a brief description of the present situation regarding the operation of the sector in Slovenia and the results of a pilot research that we conducted on the private rental market in Ljubljana. In conclusion suggestions of preconditions for the regulation and proper operation of the private rental sector in Slovenia are presented.
